1. General information
The subject aims for the student to acquire sufficient knowledge about Spanish and European contemporary institutions to understand their functions and relations with the goal of understanding the documentation they can generate and the ways in which their documentary productions can be organised and recovered.
These approaches and goals are aligned with the following Agency 2030 Sustainable Development Goals ( https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/):
- Goal 4: Ensure inclusive, equitable and quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Goal 5: Achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls.
Goal 16: Promote just, peaceful and inclusive societies.
2. Learning results
In order to pass this subject, the students shall demonstrate they has acquired the following results:
- List the different political-administrative institutions existing in Spain and Europe.
- Distinguish the different political-administrative institutions existing in Spain and Europe.
- Explain the historical evolution of such institutions.
- To critically evaluate the different Spanish and European institutions.
- Justify the competences attributed to the different Spanish and European institutions.
- To judge each of the regulations and institutions studied.
- Analyze the institutions through the compilation of various historical and legal sources.

Unit 2.- The long road to the current constitutional state in Spain, 1900-1978
Unit 3.- The three branches of government: legislative, executive and judicial
Unit 4.- General and territorial organization of the Spanish State
Unit 5.-The European integration process
Unit 6.-Institutions of the European Union
4. Academic activities
The methodology-learning process is based on:
- Theoretical classes that analyze the historical evolution of the institutions, and the description of their functions and structure.
- Practical classes dedicated to the documentary analysis and commentary of legislation and documentation referred to or generated by these institutions, and visits to some of the local and regional administration institutions.
- Personal work that will consist in the elaboration of presentations and analysis of the structures of some institutions.
- Scheduled visits to local and regional government institutions.
5. Assessment system
FIRST CALL
Continuous assessment system
- Development of projects related to the functions and structure of specific institutions among those closest to student: City Hall, Provincial Council, Government Delegation, Autonomous Parliament... It accounts for 50 % of the final grade. Criteria: adequacy to the contents taught, use of an adequate methodology, a robust bibliographic supportand a good formal presentation.
- Performance of an exam on the topics explained in the theoretical classes. It accounts for 50% of the final grade.
A minimum score of 4 in each test is required for averaging.
Global assessment test
The evaluation will consist of an examination, after presentation of a project.
SECOND CALL
Global assessment test: identical to that of the first call.
